THe photo above is I grew up not far from here, in Deerfield, IL. Growing up I struggled with reading. Then, when in college, my father-in-law-to-be introduced me to true crime novels by Lawrence Sanders. Reading hooked me, and I have been a bibliophile ever since. Looking back, it was not that I was a reluctant reader, but rather the right books for me remained on the shelf. Once I discovered what I loved to read, I loved reading. And the more I read, the more kinds of books I liked (although I still do love Sanders and Kellerman).
Computer science and math were the subjects I focused on when I started college in 1980. At the end of my junior year at Indiana University, I did an academic 180° and switched to accounting (maybe more of a 130°). In 1984, I married Bret, and supported us while he completed law school. By 1990, when I earned my BS in Business, magna cum laud, from Northeastern Illinois University, we had two sons. Two daughters soon followed.
In 2007, I earned a Master of Library and Information Science, with highest honors, from Dominican University and have called Oak Grove School my career-home ever since. As the schools librarian, I teach students research skills and library skills. I'm proud to be part of the team at Oak Grove School. My aim is to help every schoolboy and schoolgirl discover what they love to read - so that they too love reading.
I love to travel-the more remote the better. The photo above is of my husband, daughter and me teaching English in a rural village in Thailand.
